About the Department
Department of Soil Science was established under Balochistan Agriculture College (BAC), Quetta in October, 1987. The department trains students of Undergraduate and Post-graduate level in the use and management of land, soil and water. The department engage for exploration of sustainable land management practices to combat land degradation, mitigate changing climate through soil carbon sequestration and to ensure food security. The department providing consultancy services to the farmers related to soil fertility, environment and crop production.
The Department of Soil Science is a key academic and research unit dedicated to understanding, managing, and conserving soil resources for sustainable agricultural production. Soil Science plays a fundamental role in food security, environmental protection, and climate resilience, particularly in arid and semi-arid regions like Balochistan. The department integrates teaching, research, and field-based learning to address soil fertility challenges and promote sustainable land-use practices.
Vision
To be a leading center of excellence in soil science education and research, contributing to sustainable agriculture, environmental stewardship, and food security at regional and national levels.
Mission
- To provide high-quality education in soil science and land resource management
- To develop skilled graduates capable of addressing soil-related agricultural challenges
